An Update & Plans
I am almost two thirds of the way done with school! I am now able to provide services at the school three days a week, soon to be more, and I’ve been working on developing my skills in class as well as independently.
But what else have I been doing? What are my goals from here?
Since starting school and learning services, I have learned that I genuinely really enjoy performing customized facials! I love finding the perfect combinations of products and modalities to heal any skin issues and help you attain whatever goals you may have. I now know that this is what I want to specialize in once I graduate and start my own business.
I am also working a full time job that I enjoy very much, and with a good schedule — I get off at 2:30 every day! I plan on continuing to work there after graduation while I build my clientele, while performing esthetic services in the afternoons and evenings and on weekends. This will also allow me to make money to properly invest in Serpent & Sage without having to relentlessly advertise myself and be on social media constantly, which has not been great for my mental health.
I’ve realized I want to aim for a holistic approach to my practice, meaning my focus will be on addressing the cause of skin issues rather than just treating the symptoms. Currently I am learning about how issues with various parts of your body can lead to skin issues on specific areas of your face. For example, I’ve learned that my stubborn breakouts on my jawline are commonly linked to an overabundance of cortisol, which is the body’s stress hormone. Since learning this, I have noticed patterns in my skin as my stress levels go up and down. It has caused me to be more in tune with my emotions and how they affect my appearance and physical health.
I will also be attending a class in March to become certified in reiki so that I can infuse energy healing into my facials, improving your skin from the inside out. Other things I am learning in the meantime include reflexology, herbology, and lymphatic drainage massage. Stay tuned to see how I continue to grow in these areas as well!
I have also changed my goals regarding my skincare line. Rather than developing my own line from scratch as I originally planned, I will be partnering with a private label company to create a line of professional products with natural ingredients, all under my own name. This will allow me to create the exact products that I want, with a team of experienced chemists and the kind of clinical testing that I simply would not have access to if I did everything myself. Unfortunately I will not be able to start working with this company until after I graduate due to their contract with the school, but I am already writing up plans for it all! I am so excited!
I have so much in the works that I can’t wait for you to see and experience! In the meantime, give the school a call and book a service with me!
